What is a docket number?

The court clerks keep track of all cases through a system called the docket. Each new case receives a unique docket number that allows you and the clerks to keep track of your case. You will receive your docket number after you file initial forms and receive the copies back from the court. You can also use the docket number to look up your filings on the docket.
